Our learning journey

A warm welcome to all our newcomers this week.  They are Omar, Madina, Ruslan and Matthius

Our week began with our new topic "Journeys".  We read the stories "On the way home" by Jill Murphy, "The shopping basket" by John Burningham and "Through the magic mirror" by Anthony Browne. We also enjoyed following their journey by doing the actions of obstacles in their ways.

Communication, language & literacy
Speaking and listening
Mon: Express themselves clearly, describe a short journey /listen to others
Fri: Drama – use appropriate language to recreate roles.
Reading
Tues: Read a sentence. Match words said and read.
Wed: Respond to a story and relate to own experiences.
Writing
Thurs: Write short narrative based on a familiar story.

We looked into the "Magic mirror' and this is what we saw…...
Jihan sawa lion flying and Ruslan saw Ben 10.

Murad saw a snake eating an ice cream and aFatima saw a man flying.

Omar saw a dinosaur and Zarifa saw the sun eating a child's cheese!!!!

Madinah saw a rainbow on the floor and Elmira V saw a bat wearing a red dress.

We can't go over it, we can't go under it….. Oh no ….. we've got to go through it!!!

During Phonic Lessons (Read Write Inc - RWI) we learnt the following sounds -
m - maisy, mountain, mountain
a - round the apple, the the leaf
s - slither down the snake
d - round his bottom, up his tall neck and down to his feet.

We used these sounds to make words.  Here are some of the words we are learning to blend
am
Sam

mast
We also learnt these high frequency words

the

to
and

SENTENCES WE CAN READ USING OUR LETTER SOUNDS
I am Sam.
I am sad.

Personal, social & emotional
Our learners are becoming more confident in the manner in which they communicate with each other.  During breakfast, snack and lunch they enjoy talking about their favorite meals, their dislikes, etc.  Watching them play in the indoor area is a sight to behold.  Class and indoor play area construction is encouraged - as we can see from the pictures.

Mathematics
Counting
Starters - children count to 20, also count back from 10 to 0
Begin to match numerals to the number in a set.

Order numerals to 10.

Counting our claps in rounds can be good fun and also gives up practice in counting.

Expressive Arts and Design

Safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with color  design, texture, form and function. [EUM&M]

Using paper, plasticine, buttons and other materials in the class, we created our very own mini town.  Roads were constructed, trains zoomed by and cars crawled in residential areas.

OUTDOOR PLAY
We took advantage of the beautiful sunshine on Friday by going to play outdoors.  We had lots of fun.

We hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
