Fantasy and reality

Our wonderful journey with the snowman….. We're flying in the air, we're walking across a moonlit sky
Last week we enjoyed the story about "The Snowman" by Raymond Briggs.  We worked together to create a beautiful display outside our classroom.

This week we talked about families and friendships.  The children listened to Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.  The story is about Sunny, a meerkat, who leaves home to find somewhere better to live. He leaves a note for his family telling them about his plans. Our focus this week was on listening with attention to a story and to recount some of the incidents in it.

Sunny in the story Meerkat Mail carried these things in his suitcase.  We also made a list of 4 things we will carry with us when we go on a holiday or trip.

This week we learnt the sounds i, n, p, g and o
We practiced the letter formations on the big whiteboard, on our own whiteboards, in the air, on the carpet…..

We practice writing our names whenever we can.  We also wrote about the things we will pack into our suitcases when we go on holiday.

The children heard and said the initial sounds in words.

Christmas Assembly Preparation
We have been practicing our song and dance for our Christmas assembly.

We have been learning how to line up sensibly.  We know that we have to walk and not run inside the school building.
Building friendship and healthy relationships is an important part of the early years learning goals.  Our children have forged new friendships, get along well with their class mates and have learnt the importance of sharing and caring.  We also learnt how important it is to BE SAFE, STAY TOGETHER - we learnt this from Sunny in the story called Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett.

Mathematics
This week we continued to learn about counting forwards and backwards from 0 to 20.  We learnt the value of each number up to 5 this week.  In the pictures below we learning all about the number 4.  We looked for 4 around the class, we took steps according to the number on the carpet, we identified the number 4 wherever it was in the classroom.  Using the hopscotch mat was good fun and we also learnt how to use the mat for our physical development and for counting.

Zarifa is counting out the number of steps she needs to take.
Recognisng numbers and identifying numbers, as called out by the teacher.

Using the number chain - what number comes before 2, what number comes after 2, etc.
Yes…. we found the sticky note with the 4 stuck on the speaker!!!!
Where is the number  4??? Well done, Jihan!!!! Good spotting:-)
 Well done, Fakhri
Excellent Omar!!!!

We use our fine motor skills to cut out the number.  Then we used glitter and glue to jazz up our numbers.

Matthias is able to tread water without the assistance of the armbands.
